An individual who laced candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two young males both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, described the defendant's actions to the court.
She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.
The man played a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the man had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She stated the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the activities, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel said objects including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson alerted the police about his suspicions.
She stated the man went on to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that point," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The prosecutor explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson called the law enforcement a second time.
She explained the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
