Despite entering their first-ever continental campaign, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Missing star figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a commanding win that all but guarantees them a spot in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
Another three points in their upcoming fixture against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to seal straight entry to the last 16, particularly following a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This match offered a platform for some of Palace's fringe talent to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start after joining on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a well-taken goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive succession.
The Shelbourne side that had concluded their league season were no match against a mostly rotated Palace lineup. The Londoners were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee injuries.
Control Established from the Outset
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Youngster Adam Wharton went close minutes later, fizzing a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee waved away the protests.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to get his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's shot had struck the post.
Shelbourne were clinging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for two robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring his first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also missed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for improvement in his game.
A solitary concern for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the traveling side.
